Can a Grab Bar be covered under medicare or medicaid for a patient just release from a hospital I see that there is a HCPCS Level II Coding Code E0241 Bath tub wall rail but when I look under Medicare they say that Grab Bar are DENIED. Any help would be appreciated. Dave

Our focus is medical billing in dentistry, but I did see if I could find any additional info on the code you mentioned: E0241 – Bath tub wall rail, each I downloaded the January 2018 fee schedule for Medicare DME, from the following link: …and that code does not appear on the fee schedule. That does not necessarily always mean it is not covered, but is a good indicator of non-coverage. Hope this helps!
Often times when a patient is on medicare is simply they don”t have enough money to purchase the medical insurance on their own. There are plenty of places to get shower grab bars these days. Both in metal and in plastic. For the cheap plastic variety, walmart will do just fine. For the metal more sturdy type that mount to the wall, we usually recommend http://www.Mazree.com auctions. They have good deals on used medical equipment. Our patients love them. Hope this helps to keep the prices down.
